Holiday “Ecyling” Drive scheduled for Birmingham, Alabama
Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) 12 December 2006 — Why keep an old computer laying around if a new one is received for Christmas? From noon – 6 pm on December 28 at Vulcan Park, and noon – 6 pm on December 29 and 30 at CompUSA, the public is encouraged to drop off any used computers, laptops, cell phones and a number of other accepted items to be “ecycled.” Volunteers will be on site to assist in the unloading of donated equipment and provide each consumer with a tax receipt.
Organized by TechBirmingham, in partnership with Vulcan Park Foundation and CompUSA, this “ecycling” drive is to encourage local residents to recycle their used electronic equipment for the benefit of local non-profits within the greater Birmingham community.
- Thursday, December 28 / Noon – 6 pm / Vulcan Park (1701 Valley View Drive, Birmingham)
- Friday, December 29 / Noon – 6 pm / CompUSA (3230 Galleria Circle, Hoover)
- Saturday, December 30 / Noon – 6 pm / CompUSA (3230 Galleria Circle, Hoover)
Vulcan Park Foundation will also issue each consumer, at the Vulcan Park location only, a coupon good for $1 off admission to Vulcan Park’s Museum and Observation Tower that can be used during their visit that same day.
Accepted items include: Desktop computers, Laptop computers, Computer monitors, Keyboards and input devices, Printers, Scanners, Digital cameras, PDAs and handheld devices, Game systems, Printer cartridges (laser and inkjet), and Cell phones.
While most of the items received will be recycled and demanufactured, many will be refurbished. All usable desktop computers will be refurbished and redistributed to select community-based computer learning centers whose programs would benefit from an additional supply of computers.
TechBirmingham is a non-profit entity aimed at growing Birmingham’s technology economy. For more information, log onto www.techbirmingham.com and www.ecyclingday.org.

[...] Post-Christmas Ecycling Event a HUGE SUCCESS! Thank you to the thousands (yes, thousands!!) of our region’s citizens who dropped off unused electronic equipment over the past THREE AFTERNOONS at our post-Christmas Ecycling Event in the Birmingham, Ala. metropolitan region. Our first day at Vulcan Park filled used 15′ 1-800-Got-Junk? trucks and five (5) large pickup trucks and two (2) 12′ trailers. For our CompUSA site, we rented three (3) 26′ trucks from Metro Truck Rentals and kept them in constant rotation over the two days. By our estimation the total received over the three-day event equates to 85 tons of equipment collected. [...]
