Nearly 20 Birmingham technology firms have been nominated for the annual Leadership in Technology Award from the Alabama Information Technology Association. A significant number of the companies work in the health care field, with banking and mid-size business services also represented.
A total of 46 companies and individuals were nominated for awards in four categories: Small Company (under $15 million), Large Company (more than $15 million), Entrepreneur of the Year and IT Executive of the Year. Finalists and winners will be announced at the AITA Leadership in Technology Awards banquet, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Birmingham. The event is open to the public.
The Lifetime Achievement Award winner was previously announced: Olin King of Huntsville, retired CEO of SCI Systems, Inc. Now a multi-billion dollar multinational corporation, Sanmia-SCI is the largest technology firm ever started in Alabama.
“The annual awards recognize the achievements and successes of IT companies in Alabama. Almost every business need can be met by an Alabama company,” said AITA Executive Director Byron McCain. “This awards program shows that companies can obtain outstanding products and services from a world-class IT industry without leaving the state.”
